To do this, the company has implemented an innovative solution in which certain Android accessibility features are decoupled from OS updates and instead made available via Google Play Store. This way, anyone with an older or lower-end device can receive screen magnification, TalkBack gestures and BrailleBack support.
Google is bringing Android accessibility features to the Google Play Store, meaning users don’t have to wait for an OS update every time they want to engage with these offerings. Features available as individual apps include Live Caption, which instantly captions media; Sound Amplifier, which enhances sound around a user; Accessibility Menu and Select to Speak. These apps can be downloaded separately and provide users who are hard of hearing or deaf with audio content access, lend more control over settings and actions, and allow text on the screen to be read out loud.
