Bing AI Now Available to All: Microsoft’s Next-Gen Search Engine
Microsoft has officially announced that Bing AI, its newly revamped search engine powered by OpenAI’s GPT-4, is now open to all users. Previously, you had to sign up for a waitlist to access the chatbot, but now you can use it as long as you sign into Bing on the Edge browser or Bing mobile apps. With this move, Microsoft has also rolled out several new features and enhancements that could revolutionize the way we search for information online.
Enhanced Features
Microsoft’s Bing AI now offers more than just plain text responses. It can now deliver rich formatting, charts, and graphs to help users understand information better. Additionally, the Bing Image Creator has been updated to support more than 100 languages, allowing it to craft AI-generated pictures using DALL-E. Microsoft is also working on multi-modal support, which would allow users to upload images to search for specific content. For instance, you could ask Bing to find furniture that matches a unique bookcase in your home.
Conversation Histories
Bing AI now stores your conversation histories, so you can pick up where you left off at any time. Previously, chats with the AI would disappear after use. If you click on a link from a chat result, your conversation will be moved into the Edge sidebar for easy reference.
Third-Party Plugins
Microsoft plans to offer third-party plugins for Bing’s AI chat to perform functions like confirming reservations through OpenTable or fetching complex math solutions from Wolfram|Alpha. However, it’s unclear how the company plans to approve these plugins and what data they will be able to access.
Edge Browser Upgrades
The Edge browser will also receive upgrades soon. The browser’s interface will be enhanced with rounded corners and semi-transparent elements, giving it a sleeker look. Bing AI will be integrated into the Edge browser’s chat, allowing users to search for places to watch a particular movie or chat directly about websites they’re viewing in the Edge mobile apps.
Microsoft’s Build conference at the end of the month will likely feature more announcements about Bing’s AI and Edge browser upgrades. While it’s easy to get tech enthusiasts excited about the latest advancements, Microsoft will need to find ways to convince general users why they should care about Bing’s AI chat. With its powerful features and capabilities, Bing’s AI chat has the potential to revolutionize the way we search for and interact with information online.
